He’s worked with notable artists including TI, Chris Brown, Jeezy, Ludacris, and Trey Songz among others and today, Brandon “BL” Lewis is President and founder of BORN LEGENDS, a multifaceted brand that includes a clothing line, artist and sports management, live events, consulting and productions. An industry leader, BL is recognized for his talent in branding, marketing and partnerships, which has made him one of the most sought-after dealmakers in music, sports and entertainment.
BL began his career as a teenager working for, and learning from, his father, the late, legendary boxing promoter Butch Lewis. BL worked with his father on behalf of media giant, BET; large sporting events, movie productions and music deals. After graduating Cum Laude from Morehouse College in 2001, with a Bachelors in Business Marketing, he was hired to work in A&R for Blackground Records with Barry Hankerson. Senior executives soon began to notice his innate gift and ability to zero in on hitmakers and coordinate major events. BL was the force behind several pivotal deals including securing Jay Z as the sole artist for the American Gangster movie soundtrack as well as negotiating the long awaited rematch between fighters Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr.
In 2005, BL was recruited by Roy Jones, Jr to head up his music company, Bodyhead Entertainment. Under BL’s direction, Bodyhead secured Mr. Magic, a rapper, who at the time, was signed to Master P’s No Limit Records. He then created an aggressive marketing campaign to push Mr. Magic’s single “I smoke, I drink” which lead to the rapper securing a contract with Universal Records in less than one year.
BL’s reputation grew rapidly from there and today transcends generations and cultures. To date, he’s worked with iconic industry leaders: Sylvia Rhone, Denzel Washington, Bob Johnson and LA Reid as well as artists like the late Aaliyah and Tank. BL’s A&R expertise was tapped to assist Tank on his hit record “Baby I Deserve”. Working together they made “Baby I Deserve” one of the most requested love ballads at the time.
It wasn’t long before brands looking to expand their reach and customer base began to engage BL, including Crown Royal Liquors, which inked a deal with him to be a Brand Ambassador for the company. Using his aggressive marketing techniques, Brandon increased brand awareness and exponentially increased revenue in his assigned territories; the south and north-east markets. His immense success was recognized when a team of mixologists were asked to create a signature drink named after him; the “BL”.
In 2015, Minister Louis Farrakhan, noting BL’s amazing ability to make things happen, appointed him to secure the buy-in and participation of top entertainment artists and public figures for the much anticipated 20th Anniversary of the Million Man March: Justice or Else.
Today, BL’s company, BORN LEGENDS, focuses on building brands to reach their optimal levels of success using unique strategies, tactics and partnerships. One of BORN LEGENDS’ most notable decisions has been to join forces with Don Cannon, Senior V.P. of Def Jam Records and DJ Drama, A&R rep for Atlantic Records, to create “The Academy”. The Academy is bringing together top global DJs under one umbrella to create music magic and innovation across the country.
BL is living his own mantra every day: Right Strategies + Right Time + Right Connections = The Right Success!
