Kirk A. Law is Sr. Vice President of Engineering at Tableau SW. Tableau has a simple mission: help people see and understand their data. Tableau makes breakthrough products allowing workforces to harness the power of their data. Tableau provides an analytics platform that has disrupted the world of business intelligence.
Mr. Law leads one of the development teams consisting of product management and engineering development that builds Tableau’s on-premise and cloud-based offerings. His organization spans US and Europe. This team creates end user products such as Tableau Prep Builder, Tableau Prep Conductor, and key offerings like Tableau Catalog. Further, this team creates primary infrastructure services used by all of Tableau products such as data connectivity solutions, query services, governance and security services, and scalable database technologies like Hyper.
Previous to this, Mr. Law was an executive leader at several startups and larger corporations. He served as:
SVP of Engineering at Primary Data, developing intelligent automation software for enterprise data management across on-premises and cloud infrastructure.
VP of Engineering at SanDisk developing enterprise systems products.
Several VP of Engineering roles at NetApp over a 12-year period with a wide range of responsibilities from strategy, planning, development, and technology partnering to delivery of core products. Positions included VP of Manageability SW, VP of Systems Engineering, and VP of OEM Systems Engineering.
VP of Systems and Platform Development for Cacheflow Systems Inc, a web acceleration company.
Several roles at SGI (formerly Silicon Graphics Computer Systems) over a 14-year period. A key leader in SGI’s push to be a premier Digital Media systems and solution provider to entertainment media customers such as Lucas Film, Digital Domain, Disney, CBS, etc. Mr. Law grew from an individual contributor to the level of Sr. Director of Engineering developing ASIC chips, leading system platform developments, managing software teams and technical relationships with various partners and customers.
Mr. Law began his career at the David Sarnoff Research Center in Princeton, NJ, then an R&D center for the RCA Corporation. There he received several patents in digital TV processing technologies.
Mr. Law is on the Board of Directors for the national non-profit organization Raising a Reader (https://www.raisingareader.org), a member of the Executive Leadership Council (https://www.elcinfo.com) , a member of the Sigma Pi Phi fraternity(https://www.sigmapiphi.org), a member of the National Society of Black Engineers, and Eta Kappa Nu (Purdue EE Honor Society).
Mr. Law earned both a BSEE and MSEE degree from Purdue University. He is a 2012 recipient of the Purdue Outstanding Electrical and Computer Engineering award, selected by the faculty of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering and is presented to a select group of alumni who have demonstrated exemplary accomplishments, leadership and service to community.
